Welcome home ‘Jose’!

Puerto Rican native ‘Jose’ has been struggling with Major Depression Disorders (MDD) for over 65-years. Diagnosed in his early 30s, ‘Jose’ told us that his mental illness created many setbacks for him specifically the inability to graduate from high school. Connecting with case managers who provided him with stabilization services, ‘Jose’ received his GED when he turned 35. “This was a very big accomplishment for me” said ‘Jose’. Giggling meekly, ‘Jose’ told us that he was single but would like to have a girlfriend.

Permanently housed in Fort Lauderdale, BHS will continue working closely with Jose and his case manager from Chrysalis to connect him with a variety of community programs that encourage economic stability as he continues navigating the road to recovery and reintegration.
