Thank you Morningday Community Solutions

Thank you Morningday Community Solutions for the generous Capacity Assistance Grant! Using the $500 voucher, Team Broward Housing Solutions (Team BHS) purchased furniture and household items to help our low-income and homeless residents with mental illness create a comfortable and affordable home where they ‘hang their hearts and hats’.

Prior to moving into Broward Housing Solutions’ (BHS’) apartment, 40-year ‘young’, single mother of three boys, ‘. ‘Ms. Joynette’ lived in Dania Beach. Receiving clinical and supportive services fromRegional Management Care and in need of affordable housing, ‘Ms. Joynette’s’ Case Manager, Lorna Hamilton, placed [Joynette] on BHS’ Affordable and Supportive Housing Wait List.

Diagnosed with Schizophrenia, ‘Ms. Joynette’ remained focused on staying mentally and physically healthy to provide a better life for her sons. Her dream was realized just a few years later when she received a call from her Case Manager that a three-bedroom affordable apartment finally became available.

Preparing to move into her new home, ‘Ms. Joynette’ knew she needed several things to accommodate her sons in the larger unit so, with the help of Team BHS, she was connected with the furniture they purchased using the Capacity Assistance Grant awarded to them by friends and partners, Morningday Community Solutions. “This was the perfect match” said Lisa Vecchi, President and CEO of Broward Housing Solutions. “Generously awarded a $500 voucher (valued at more than $1,500) from our friends at Morningday Community Solutions, we purchased furniture, household goods such as lamps, vacuums, and bedding for our families in need. What a gift to partner with Morningday Community Solutions who stop at nothing to ensure that our community’s nonprofit providers who serve vulnerable populations are well-connected with all resources to make an even greater impact”.

While taking selfies of her newly acquired furnishings, Broward Housing Solutions asked ‘Ms. Joynette’ about the advice she would give to someone in her shoes, she said: “Troubles don’t last forever; always pray and keep the faith. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Work hard and just keep going”. ‘Ms. Joynette’ told Team BHS: “I am really grateful for this opportunity and learning experience.”

On behalf of Broward Housing Solutions’ Board of Directors, Team BHS, and the resilient residents whom we are privileged to serve, thank you again Morningday Community Solutions for your generosity and partnership!
