Struggling with her mental illness and substance abuse landed 34-year old India on the streets and homeless for nearly 3-years. Connected with a case manager who guided her with stabilization services, India is focused on her recovery and reintegration. “It took a long time to understand that running away from everyone and life was not the answer. My case manager believed in me and showed me how to believe in myself”, said India.

“As a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist I’m helping those who were in my shoes, and it feels good. And, now I signed a lease with Broward Housing Solutions (BHS), everything is falling into place”. India told BHS that she’s looking forward to cooking while listening to music and reading in her new home. And, reconnecting with her family to invite them over for a meal is another highlight of her new beginning.
