“I finally found a place to call home!”
Born and bred in Florida, John H. has been homeless for most of his life, including the past three-years. Diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, John has been struggling to maintain his mental health while in recovery from substance abuse. Separated from his wife with whom he shares a daughter, John is proud to tell us that she’s in college and they stay in close contact. Also supporting his stabilization is his brother Aaron with whom he stays in touch.
John had a difficult time when his mother passed away last year but said that she’s looking over him now that he has a place to call home. John told BHS that he is so grateful for this new start and cannot wait to decorate his home.
BHS’ Housing Specialist, Angela and Case Manager, Willie, worked tirelessly to coordinate support from community partnerships in helping John transition from a shelter to his new apartment. BHS’ longtime friends and partners at Morningday Community Solutions assisted with a futon and other household items.
“Our home is your home John” said BHS’ CEO, Vecchi, who is thrilled to welcome John as its newest member of the Senior Solutions affordable housing program.
