Broward Housing Solutions® (BHS®) Senior Solutions Program is designed to provide safe, affordable, and stable housing for low-income seniors who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and who have been diagnosed with a Severe Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and other disabling conditions.
This program offers long-term housing combined with wraparound supportive services to help older adults maintain independence while receiving the care and resources they need to thrive in their community. Residents are placed in one of BHS® one or two-bedroom apartment units located throughout various cities in Broward County. All units are strategically situated near public transportation, employment and educational opportunities, healthcare services, and shopping centers—ensuring accessibility to essential resources.
Additionally, residents are provided with wrap-a-round case management support from community mental health partner agencies. By using a comprehensive, resident-centered approach, BHS® collaborates with community partners to integrate and coordinate a wide range of services tailored to meet the unique and complex needs of each resident.
These services typically include, but are not limited to:
This holistic and strength-based approach aims to empower individuals, promote long-term stability, and improve overall quality of life. Services are delivered in a flexible and culturally responsive manner, with a focus on building trust, fostering independence, and reducing barriers to success. Furthermore, by combining housing stability with person-centered care, BHS® Senior Solutions Program empowers older adults to age with dignity, safety, and
connection.
Most importantly, through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and oversight by Broward County’s Continuum of Care (CoC), participants—including their families, when applicable—are able to live independently while contributing only 30% of their gross monthly income toward rent, making it an affordable and sustainable option for vulnerable senior residents in need.
