Broward II

Broward II

Broward II is an affordable housing initiative offered by Broward Housing Solutions® (BHS®) that provides independent, permanent, supportive, and affordable housing to individuals facing chronic homelessness and living with a Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or other disabling conditions. This program is made possible through partnerships between BHS® and third-party landlords across Broward County.

Once enrolled, a Housing Specialist partners with the resident to assess their housing needs, explore affordable housing options, support them through the application and leasing process, and provide ongoing assistance to promote long-term housing stability. The Housing Specialist also works closely with landlords, case managers, and community partners to ensure the resident has access to safe, secure, and sustainable housing.

Additionally, residents are provided with wraparound case management support. Case Managers play a pivotal role in facilitating the transition of Broward II residents into permanent housing and fostering long-term independence. They provide continuous support in various daily living skills, including hygiene, nutrition, home maintenance, financial management, and medication adherence. Case Managers also assist residents in accessing public benefits, employment opportunities, healthcare, and other essential community resources.

Each resident receives a customized Individualized Service Plan (ISP), meticulously crafted through a comprehensive needs assessment, that outlines specific objectives and actionable steps. Case Managers diligently monitor progress, offering guidance and making necessary adjustments to support residents in achieving stability and enhancing their overall well-being.

Through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and oversight by Broward County’s Continuum of Care (CoC), participants—including their families, when applicable—are able to live independently while contributing only 30% of their gross monthly income toward rent, making Broward II an affordable and sustainable option for individuals and families in need.
